Hey there!
Thanks for stopping by the homestead!
I'm Katie. I am a wife and mom of 2. My husband, Shayne and I, along with our 2 kids live on our secluded 40 acre homestead in the woods in rural Oklahoma.
My homemaking, homesteading, and homeschooling journey began in 2018 when my husband and I bought our first homestead, a beautiful 5 acre property. We built that homestead, including the home, from the ground up. Our goal when starting that homestead was to raise our children at home and live a more simple, self sustaining lifestyle.
On that 5 acre homestead, we raised laying hens, a herd of 20 Pygmy goats, 2 livestock guardian dogs, and all of our meat sources, which included meat chickens, pigs, and a single Angus beef steer each year. We also grew both in ground and raised bed gardens that provided food for our family year round.
Our homestead grew quickly, and so did our dreams and our passions for our lifestyle. In 2022, we began to search for a property with more seclusion and more acreage. That is when we found our dream. A 20 acre completely secluded property. Raw, wild land that was waiting to be tamed. We looked at the property one time and immediately knew it was everything we had been searching for.
In Fall 2022, we sold our 5 acre homestead and began our journey on our 20 acre homestead. We moved our family into a camper, set up an outhouse, and hit the ground running to tame this land and turn it into the thriving homestead of our dreams. In Spring 2024, the 20 acres connected to our property was listed for sale and we were fortunate enough to grow our homestead even more by purchasing that additional 20 acres. Our homestead is now 40 acres way out in the woods. Our 5 acre homestead, living in the camper, and building our forever home and homestead, all while homeschooling our children has allowed me to become the creative homemaker, homesteader, and homeschooler that I am today.
My hope for this blog and all content we provide is that it will be both encouraging and educational, no matter where you are in your journey of homesteading, homemaking, and/or homeschooling. Thank you for being here and stopping by the homestead!
